Photographs

I recently purchased an inexpensive scanner and scanned some pictures from 1993 through 2001.  In March of 2002 I picked up an inexpensive digital camera and started taking that on trips.  The camera was the Kodak DC3200, 2 megapixel resolution and compact flash memory.  The Kodak was more of a knock-around camera, taking good pictures outdoors but the flash sucked for indoors.  Eventually the camera was destroyed by salt water on a trip in April 2002 to Rocky Point.

I shopped around for a new camera for awhile.  I decided I'd either buy another inexpensive point-n-shoot digital camera or take a big step up to a camera with some SLR type capabilities.  I shopped around and finally decided on the Minolta DiMage S404.  It's a 4 megapixel camera with a 4x optical zoom.  It uses compact flash memory, so my investment in memory cards for my last camera wouldn't go to waste.  It's operation emulates an SLR.  I have an Auto mode for quick shots, and a manual mode so I can play with settings a bit more.

Eventually I'd like to make this page database driven with the capability to search for photo's.  I have the basic design in my head, execution and some purchases are all that need to happen.  I manage my main photo collection with Thumbsplus.  Thumbsplus indexes photographs in a simple database and allows me to add comments and keywords to that database.  My plan is to go through my entire photo collection, adding keywords and comments.  If I add a database server to Redzilla, I can then make all pictures on the site searchable.  It'll take a lot of time and some creative web programming I need to figure out.

The photo's on this site can be turned into prints.  I've processed a couple of them through Walmart, and they turned out pretty good.  To do this, you'd have to download the full-size photo (click on the image with your right mouse button and choose "save") you want and then going to Walmart's Photo Center to upload it for processing.  I'm trying to find someone that's easier to use that has a tool I can add to my site or has a tool you can download and use on any site.
