Went out and bought two Vista Cruises (got a deal on the second). It's one that "fits most honda and kawasaki pre-1982). Also, a 1/8" roll-pin(middle of picture). On the left you see the Vista-Cruise with the tang cut off. That tang normaly grabs hold of the throttle cable on older bikes. You can see the tang on the other vista-cruise at right still.

There's a ridge around the throttle near the switch assembly. It's like a rim running around to hold the grip or something. I ground/sanded it down with my dremmel.
I then used a buffing wheel in the dremel to smooth down my sanding. I didn't have fine enough sand paper for the job, so I spent a bit of time here smoothing things where the Vista-Cruise would go.
I drilled a 1/8" hole at the 1 o'clock position for the roll-pin to fit into the switch assembly. I drilled throught both the Vista Cruise and the switch assembly at the same time. I noticed a bit of metal when I tried to drill deaper into the switch assembly though. It looked like lead. After taking apart the switch assembly, I found I touched the lead end on one of the throttle cables. Be carefull here.
BTW, it's a bear to put the switch assembly back together without taking the brake lever and perch off. I had no choice though, my hex wrench wasn't tough enough to unfasten the bolts holding it on. The hex wrench just twisted like a candy cane.

Ok. Grind the roll-pin to length so it just fits into the switch assembly without interfering with the throttle operation and still stick out enough to hold onto the Vista-Cruise without sticking past it and into the grip.
Once it wasn't too long, I glued it in with a little superglue. Not too much, don't need to have it getting all over the place.
Drill the hole on the Vista-Cruise a little bit larger. A little bit of play is good here. It lets the Vista-Cruise flop a little and keeps it from binding. I also sanded the inside of the Vista-Cruise to enlargen it a little, it was binding a bit too much. Then slip on on and over the roll-pin. No glue here, just let it be loose.
Slide that little plastic shield up. I keeps the shoulder of the grip from binding too much on the Vista-Cruise.
Put the new pro-grip's on. Use hairspray to slip them on. Once the hairspray dries, the grip will stay nicely.
Viola! 10:20pm on the clock and I'm done!

Oh, on that bar-end weight. Yes, that is a plastic cap that comes off to allow you to get at the allen screw inside. Once I got the new grip on, I trimmed a little flang off the edge towards the bar-end weight. The grip sits out further because of the Vista-Cruise. I also added a washer inside the bar-end weight to hold it out further so it didn't bind against the grip.
