We headed up to Charleston, SC for a day.

In the distance you can see the cable-stay bridge they're building over the harbor. Apparently the bridge just up from it is a draw-bridge, but with 20 ships per day coming through it backs up quite a bit of traffic. So, the cable-stay bridge was built higher so they could have non-stop traffic going over it.

There's a better look at the cable-stay bridge. It's not done yet. There's still a bit of roadway left to put in there.

While we were waiting for a boat to take us out to Ft. Sumpter, this Coast Guard helicopter buzzed by.

We hop on this boat to ride out to Ft. Sumpter at the opening to the harbor.

Here we are at Ft. Sumpter. Right at the beginning of the civil war, federal troops from the area consolidated themselves at this fort from other forts in the area. The other forts were not yet finished, so this one offered the best protection.
